Community Services Unit

In June, the Community Services Unit (CSU) participated in four Explorer meetings, one Volunteer meeting,
one reserve meeting, two Neighborhood Watch meetings, and hosted a community policing meeting in Zone
2.

The CSU launched a pilot program, which partners with the Moreno Valley Mall (MVM). In this program,
uniformed MVPD volunteers will conduct hi-visibility foot patrols within the MVM, as well as hi-visibility
vehicle patrols in the MVM’s parking lots and outlying areas. The aim of this program is to add an extra layer
of awareness to the MVM area during its peak summer

Volunteers

The Moreno Valley Police Department relies heavily on volunteer forces to assist with providing valued
service to the residents of Moreno Valley. During the month of June, volunteers provided over 1,000 hours
of service to the Moreno Valley Police Department. Volunteers conducted Citizen Patrols (Uniformed high
visibility patrol in marked volunteer patrol cars), assisted the Business Office assisted with incident call outs
(Response to major incidents within the city to assist with perimeter security, road closures, and searching
for lost hikers/missing persons), and assisted with monitoring the City Wide Camera System.

Traffic Team

Office of Traffic And Safety Grant Operations

During the month of June, the MVPD Traffic team conducted several Office of Transportation and Safety
(OTS) directed enforcement operations consisting of two DUI Saturation Patrols, one “Know Your Limit” DUI
Awareness/Educational Operation, one Night-Time Click It or Ticket Operation, two Primary Collision factor
Enforcement Operations, two Distracted Driver Enforcement Operations, and two DUI Stakeout Operations.

Traffic Stops/Citations Issued

The MVPD Traffic Team conducted 879 vehicle stops, wrote 728 hazardous/moving violation citations, 102
non-hazardous violation citations, and 89 parking citations. In addition, the team arrested 27 people for
driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs (13 involved a traffic collision), made one felony arrest, and 11
misdemeanor arrests.

Traffic Collisions

The MVPD Traffic Team responded to 44 Minor-injury collisions, 112 property damage collisions, nine Injury
hit and run collisions, 80 Non-injury hit and run collisions, one major-injury collision. In addition, the MVPD
Traffic Team responded to 54 reckless driver calls, 40 traffic hazard calls, 82 abandoned vehicle calls, and 11
disabled vehicle calls.
