Hubbard Street Storm Drain Improvement

On June 20, City Council awarded a construction contract to O’Duffy Bros Inc to construct the Hubbard Street
Storm Drain project. The project will construct an underground storm drain system with inlets along Hubbard
Street from Ironwood Avenue to Kalmia Avenue to mitigate flooding for the area. The new storm drain will
connect to the existing storm drain at Ironwood Avenue and extend north to Kalmia Avenue. Street
improvements including curbs and gutters will be constructed to provide drainage capacity. Together with
the street improvements, the proposed storm drain will convey stormwater up to 100 year storm events.
Construction will begin in July 2017 and finish by January 2018.

2017 Summer at City Hall Program

The 2017 Summer at City Hall program was held from June 12 to July 6. The collaborative project with Val
Verde Unified School District (VVUSD) is a leadership development and civic engagement program for
students during the summer break. The goal of the program is to teach local students about civic
engagement, establish interest in public service, and develop workplace skills to help them land their first
job.
