ground between children of all abilities. The playground equipment will be connected by ramps, decks,
and play stations. It will include a 4-bay swing set, separate play equipment for tots ages 2-5 and
benches for parents to rest and watch their children. The playground is expected to be completed in
Spring 2017.
• Inland Empire Bike Alliance (IEBA) and the City of Moreno Valley held the Third Annual Ride MoVal!
The October 30th at the Conference and Recreation Center. The Moreno Valley Police Department’s
Motor Team escorted riders at the start of each race. Volunteer EOC members were on site to assist
with first aid. The riders enjoyed DJ music, beer garden, and vendors.
• The Moreno Valley Arts Commission acknowledged the Day of the Dead with a free outdoor movie
screening of “The Book of Life” at the Conference and Recreation Center on November 4th.
• The Arts Commission and staff held its 9th Annual ArtoberFest on October 8th. The event featured
artistic displays ranging from paintings to photography. The bike rodeo was a success with 100 helmets
being given away to local youth, and two pets were adopted through the Pet Adoption program.
• The City purchased and planted behind the Conference and Recreation Center adjacent to the Veterans
Memorial a Sequoia Aptos Blue tree, which is a 60” box and approximately 22 feet in height. The new
tree will be featured as the City’s new holiday tree during the City First Annual Tree Lighting and Holiday
Celebration on December 3rd.
• Team MoVal competed in the Mayor’s Cup Basketball Tournament on October 15th against the cities
of Chino, Riverside, Menifee, Perris, and Rialto. The day was filled with fun and excitement, which also
included food vendors, entertainment by Tammie D’s Soul Line Dance Team, and a large crowd
supporting their teams. Team MoVal was victorious in the final championship beating the City of Rialto.

• The Arts Commission hosted a free outdoor screening of the “Book of Life” to acknowledge the Day of
the Dead. More than 125 attended the event, which included vendors selling hot chocolate, churros,
and themed products commemorating the Day of the Dead. The first 100 youth in attendance received
free luminary bags and face painting. Residents had the opportunity to pay homage to passed loved
ones on a Community Wall.
• Inland Empire Bike Alliance (IEBA) and the City of Moreno Valley held the Third Annual Ride MoVal on
October 30th at the Conference and Recreation Center. There were a total of 40 riders who
participated in the event (5-mile: 3 bicyclists; 15-mile: 11 bicyclists; 32-mile: 15 bicyclists; and 62 mile:
11 bicyclists). The event included DJ music, beer garden, and vendors.

Recreation Programs

Recreation contract classes were successful during September with residents registering for cheerleading,
Loyal K-9, bowling, and Fun and Easy Spanish classes. Several new classes began including Intermediate
Hip Hop, Intermediate Piano, Job Readiness Workshop, Youth Professional Development, Understanding
the NCAA and Finding Scholarships for All Athletes, Special Needs Professional Development Seminars, and
much more.
