On October 17, units from the Moreno Valley Battalion
were dispatched to a reported traffic collision in Moreno
Beach Fire Station 58’s primary response area. Upon
arrival, Engine 58 reported a two-car traffic collision with
one party trapped suffering from major injuries. With a
coordinated effort between Fire personnel from Engine
58 and Truck 2, the patient was extricated within nine
minutes of their arrival time. Fire personnel immediately
initiate advanced life support care. The patient was
treated at the scene for major injuries and care was
continued by Fire personnel while being transported to Riverside University Hospital with the assistance of
American Medical Response personnel. While trapped and prior to extrication, it was determined that the
patient’s injuries were very significant with indications of possible paralysis.

On October 24, units from the Moreno Valley Battalion responded to a medical emergency in Towngate Fire
Station 6’s primary response area. Engine 6 arrived on scene of a 6-year-old child discovered pulseless and not
breathing by the parents. The child’s father was performing chest compressions prior to the arrival of the Fire
Department personnel. Fire personnel initiated immediate advanced life support (ALS) intervention to the
unconscious and unresponsive child. The treatment on scene included continuing of cardiopulmonary
resuscitation (CPR) efforts and cardiac monitoring. American Medical Response (AMR) paramedics arrived
soon after and rapid transport was coordinated with the ambulance crew. The patient was placed on high flow
oxygen via a bag valve mask to provide for respirations, an IV was established and cardiac drugs administered.
The child was transported by AMR to Riverside University Health System (RUHS) with firefighter paramedic
maintaining patient care. While en route to the hospital there was no change in the patient condition. Upon
departure from the emergency department the hospital staff was still continuing resuscitative efforts;
however, the prognosis did not appear to be positive.

On October 28, units from the Moreno Valley Battalion were dispatched to a person down in Kennedy Park
Fire Station 65’s primary response area. Engine 65 arrived at scene and found Moreno Valley Police Department
Officers performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a 14-year-old victim of hanging. Firefighter
paramedics confirmed the patient was pulseless, not breathing and immediately initiated advance life support
(ALS) while continuing to provide CPR. The patient was rapidly transported to an area hospital with firefighter
paramedics continuing ALS care. Sadly, shortly after the arrival at the emergency department, all lifesaving
efforts were discontinued.

On October 29, units from the Moreno Valley Battalion responded to reports of a fire at the Amazon
Distribution Center in College Park Fire Station 91’s primary response area. Fire personnel arrived on scene to
find a large commercial trash compactor with fire and smoke coming from it. Fire personnel worked with
Amazon and Waste Management to move the container away from the building to extinguish the
contents. The fire was contained in 45 minutes. One Amazon employee was treated on-scene for possible
smoke inhalation. There was no damage to the building and Amazon management successfully evacuated all
927 personnel to a pre-designated safe area. All Amazon personnel returned to normal operations following
control of the fire. A total of 5 Engines, 2 trucks, 23 personnel, 2 Chiefs, were committed for 2 hours.

• The City of Moreno Valley hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for the installation of new inclusive
playground equipment at Shadow Mountain Park, 23239 Presidio Hills. The new playground
equipment will feature Moreno Valley's first inclusive equipment design, which will serve the physical,
social, sensory, cognitive, and emotional needs of children of all abilities. Inclusive playgrounds inspire
social evolution through the development of understanding, accepting, and building of common
