Fire Prevention

Fire Prevention Week
On September 20, the Fire Prevention team was given a proclamation
by the Moreno Valley City Council recognizing the importance of fire
prevention in the lives of residents throughout the year. The theme,
“Don’t wait – Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years,”
represents the final year of a three-year effort to educate the public
about basic but essential elements of smoke alarm safety. Not only
should residents test smoke alarms monthly and change the batteries
every six months, but you should replace smoke alarms every ten
years or as indicated by the manufacturer.

International Fire Code Hearings

Fire Marshal Adria Reinertson along with a contingent of representatives from California attended the Public
Comment Hearings for the development of the 2018 International Fire Code and the 2018 International
Residential Code. The team provided testimony, collaborated with peers, and voted on many important
proposals. A few of the more interesting proposals dealt with regulating marijuana extraction, food trucks, and
mobile fueling.

Accela ACP Project

In October, the Fire Prevention Bureau received iPads for all inspectors and began preliminary training with
introductions and testing of the Accela Civic Platform. Inspectors will be able to work completely paperless in
the field with the ability to issue correction notices and permits directly from their devices. Our goal and
commitment is to increase efficiency in the field while ensuring the best level of safety for our community.

Moreno Valley Fire Prevention Bureau is diligently working to complete fourth quarter annual inspections,
while simultaneously making themselves available to train and provide input to the Accela Civic Platform
(ACP) team. Once the program is implemented, the application will be used in the field by all inspectors and
accessible through iPad devices. Inspectors will be able to work completely paperless with the ability to issue
correction notices and permits directly from their devices.

Office of Emergency Management

On September 11, Fire Department personnel from the Office of Emergency
Management (OEM), Moreno Beach Fire Station 58, members of the City’s
Emergency Response Force (ERF) and the Moreno Valley Fire Explorers
participated in the City of Moreno Valley’s 2016 Youth Fest. OEM and ERF
personnel provided first aid and a cooling center in addition to handing out
educational Fire Prevention materials. Fire Department personnel from
Station 58 as well as Fire Explorers were available to provide tours of the fire
engine and answer questions.
