In late July, security at Amazon Fulfillment Center started noticing several empty watch boxes showing up in
the trash and hidden throughout the business. They contacted detectives with the Moreno Valley Police
Department and began investigating the employee theft. Investigators were able to locate watches for sale on
a website matching the description of several stolen watches.

In August 2016, investigators were able to identify one of the Amazon employees as the person selling the
stolen watches. Investigators conducted a sales history of the subject and found he sold over 250 watches
with a value of over $35,000. MVPD Investigators served a search warrant at his residence and located several
additional stolen watches. The watches were returned to Amazon and the suspect was arrested.

Business Office
The Moreno Valley Police Department Business Office ensures the day to day functions of the Department are
kept moving forward and is responsible for tracking all reports for the Police Department. The following is a
sample of the duties they performed in August:
• Assisted approximately 3,200 customers at the front counter of the Moreno Valley Police Department.
• The Business Office processed and entered into the Records Management System over 2,255 reports
and met all deadlines for the State Uniform Crime Report.
• The Business Office also:

o Entered approximately 519 citations into the Crossroads system.
o Processed 105 vehicle releases.
o Processed 369 arrest reports for filing with the District Attorney

Capital Projects

Cottonwood Avenue Pavement Resurfacing

This project consisted of resurfacing Cottonwood Avenue from Frederick Street to Elsworth Street. The scope
of work included installing an asphalt overlay over the existing pavement, and reestablishment of traffic
striping and pavement markings.

A construction contract was awarded by City Council on August 16, 2016. Construction started on August 20,
2016 and pavement and first coat striping were completed on August 29, 2016. Surplus Total Road
Improvement Program (TRIP) funds were available on short notice and were used to resurface this top-priority
street. Final striping and clean-up were completed in September 2016.
