Department members used the license plate information and ultimately identified the suspect, a resident of
San Bernardino. This suspect had previously been convicted and sentenced to 13 years in state prison for a
carjacking in Los Angeles County. Members of the Moreno Valley Police Department were able to link this
suspect to all four Moreno Valley robberies. In addition to our local crimes, this suspect was linked to the
following armed robberies committed throughout Southern California:
Jan 2, 2016 - Wells Fargo Bank, Ontario, CA

June 21, 2016 - Wells Fargo Bank, Highland, CA

July 1, 2016 - Denny’s restaurant, Riverside, CA

July 9, 2016 - U.S. Bank, Fontana, CA
July 13, 2016 - Wells Fargo Bank, Whittier, CA

July 14, 2016 - Union Bank, Riverside, Ca

July 19, 2016 - 7-11, Montclair, CA
On July 21, 2016, Moreno Valley Police Investigators and the Riverside Sheriff’s SWAT Team arrested the
suspect at a USA Gas station in the city of Riverside. At the time of arrest, officers located an SKS rifle, a replica
handgun, and several items of clothing, which matched items worn in the various robberies.
In August 2016, a follow up investigation linked this suspect to a homicide which occurred during a robbery on
July 1, 2016, in Buena Park. In addition to the numerous armed robberies, this suspect is now being prosecuted
for murder.

PATROL

Patrol officers responded to over 14,000 calls for service during the month of
August. These calls for service ranged from noise complaints to homicide.

On August 7, 2016, patrol officers responded to an armed robbery at a business
on Perris Boulevard. On August 8, 2016, a second robbery involving the same
suspect occurred at a convenience store on Perris Boulevard. Patrol officers
were able to gather information about the suspect and relay it to members of
the Robbery Suppression Team (RST). Patrol and RST arrested the suspect later
that evening and located evidence linking him to both crimes.
Community Services Team

In August, the Community Services Team participated in National Night
Out, a crime prevention and safety awareness program. Community
Services personnel, volunteers, and Officers from the Moreno Valley
Police Department participated in this event at several community
locations.

On August 3, 2016, the Community Services Team conducted active
shooter training for over 200 citizens at Canyon Springs High School. The
attendees were taught how to react and respond to an active shooter
scenario.

The Moreno Valley Police Department relies heavily on volunteer forces to assist with providing valued service
to the residents of Moreno Valley. Our volunteers have logged more than 240 hours this past month.
