Active Transportation Program Grant – Cycle 3
The Active Transportation Program (ATP) consolidated federal and state funded transportation programs,
including the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP), Bicycle Transportation Account (BTA), and Safe
Routes to School (SR2S), into a single program with a focus to make California a national leader in active
transportation. In early 2016, Caltrans issued a call for projects under the third cycle of ATP. The City of Moreno
Valley Public Works Department submitted one application to construct a two-mile segment of the Juan
Bautista De Anza Trail that will provide connections to Lake Perris State Recreational Area, Rancho Verde High
School, and the City of Perris trail network. Caltrans received 456 applications statewide. After a highly
competitive evaluation process, Public Works received notification that our grant application was successful in
receiving project funding totaling $2.849 million.
