Protect Our Burros
Moreno Valley’s undomesticated burros are a beloved community treasure. Although they are rugged and strong, the burros face danger every day due to humans — so it’s up to us to protect them.
See an Injured Burro?
If you hit a burro or see one injured on the side of the road, call 911 so Animal Services can be dispatched.
How You Can Help
Do Not Feed the Burros
They are wild animals. Feeding burros takes away their natural instinct to forage and reduces their natural fear of people.
Harassment is Illegal
It is illegal to harm or harass undomesticated burros under Moreno Valley Municipal Code 10.02.115 — including any intentional act that disrupts an animal’s normal behavioral patterns.
Do Not Approach
Burros are territorial and protective of their offspring. A kick can be fatal — appreciate them from a safe distance.
Slow Down
Slow down when driving in “burro country.” Burros don’t distinguish roads from the rest of their territory — it’s up to us to watch for them.
