City of Moreno Valley Debuts Augmented Reality Mural at CRC: A First in the IE

On Saturday, March 8, during the second annual Multicultural and Art Festival, the City of Moreno Valley debuted the highly anticipated augmented reality (A/R) feature of a mural on the exterior, south-facing wall of the Conference and Recreation Center (CRC).
The mural, designed by renowned muralist and local artist Patrick Barwinksi, showcases several augmented reality elements that “come alive” when viewed on a smartphone screen after scanning a QR code stationed next to the mural.
“This mural is the first of its kind in the Inland Empire. It’s a beautiful work of art that not only pays homage to many elements that make Moreno Valley special, but with the integration of the A/R features, it also truly captures the innovative spirit of our beloved City,” said Mayor Ulises Cabrera. “Patrick is a consummate artist and innovator, and we are truly grateful for the opportunity to showcase his talents in such a highly visible location.”
The impressive artwork, entitled “Harmony in the Valley,” celebrates the unique spirit of Moreno Valley, capturing its rich heritage, diverse community, and natural wonders. The mural makes a bold impression in both size and symbolism and features vivid colors intertwined with iconic symbols. It serves as a testament to the beauty and unity found within the tapestry of the City and surrounding areas.
Barwinski was born and raised in Moreno Valley, attending Canyon Springs High School as part of the Academy of Creative Technology (ACT). He is known for creating large-scale murals that incorporate intricate details, bold colors, and diverse artistic elements inspired by the cultural fabric of the community. Additional work by Barwinski can be seen on the north side of the CRC, facing Alessandro Boulevard, a mural that was unveiled in 2024, and recently added an A/R experience as well.

Moreno Valley estrena mural de realidad aumentada en el CRC: una primicia en el Inland Empire
El sábado 8 de marzo, durante el segundo Festival Multicultural y de Arte anual, la ciudad de Moreno Valley estrenó la muy esperada función de realidad aumentada (A/R) de un mural en la pared exterior orientada al sur del Centro de Conferencias y Recreación (CRC).
El mural, diseñado por el reconocido muralista y artista local Patrick Barwinksi, muestra varios elementos de realidad aumentada que "cobran vida" cuando se ven en la pantalla de un teléfono inteligente después de escanear un código QR ubicado junto al mural.
"Este mural es el primero de su tipo en el Inland Empire. Es una hermosa obra de arte que no solo rinde homenaje a muchos elementos que hacen que Moreno Valley sea especial, sino que con la integración de las funciones de A/R, también captura verdaderamente el espíritu innovador de nuestra amada ciudad", dijo el alcalde Ulises Cabrera. “Patrick es un artista consumado e innovador, y estamos verdaderamente agradecidos por la oportunidad de mostrar su talento en un lugar tan visible”.

El mural causa una impresión audaz tanto en tamaño como en simbolismo y presenta colores vivos entrelazados con símbolos icónicos. Sirve como testimonio de la belleza y la unidad que se encuentran dentro del tapiz de la ciudad y las áreas circundantes.
